Navy Seal

The FACE Foundation is proud to announce its latest mission to Central America.

On June 25, 2009, physicians, social workers and nurses from FACE El Salvador as well as Jacksonville Facial Plastic Surgeon, Roberto E. Garcia, M.D. will spend two days aboard the U.S.S. Comfort providing medical and surgical care to children with facial defects.

The Comfort is a United States navy hospital ship that has all of the capabilities of a tertiary care hospital.  It is designed to take care of all sorts of medical, dental and surgical problems in a compact and efficient platform.  Of course it has the added benefit of being able to sail to any part of the world and provide its services to any country.  The ship is currently on tour throughout the Caribbean and Central and South America and will anchor outside of El Salvador near the end of June.

FACE intends to provide services to approximately 30 children with disfiguring deformities such as cleft lip, cleft palate, traumatic facial deformities and burn injuries.  The team will comprise of Salvadorian plastic surgeons as well as American surgeons working hand in hand in an internationally sensitive, cooperative and nurturing environment that will foster excellent relations between the two countries.

This is one of the first time that U.S. physicians have worked in conjunction with international physicians aboard a U.S. Navy hospital ship.

FACE looks forward to continuing to provide services to impoverished and underprivileged communities throughout the world.

Dengue Fever is on the increase in some parts of  Central America and the Caribbean.  F.A.C.E. is providing mosquito nets in countries where we have Medical Social Workers.  It is important that you understand how to prevent this disease.  This is also helpful for malaria.  Watch the video in our medical library.
